This new original is an idea for a painting that I've been workshopping in my mind and in sketches since early 2025. I knew I wanted to illustrate a scene that inferred a narrative without words; one that incorporated some fun nostalgic elements like glow-in-the-dark stars, everyone's favorite fish tank lamp, and the act of sneaking a flashlight or a handheld game under the covers at night, hoping your parents don't catch you still up when it's time for "lights out". I enjoyed finding a balance between adding specific, meaningful details to construct this narrative, while also leaving some elements with ambiguous gaps for the viewer to fill in with their own imagination and memories. I hope this new scene resonates with you as much as it did with me as I brought it into existence.
